William Saliba, a defender for Arsenal, has been identified by West Ham United as a top candidate before the summer transfer season. To the chagrin of manager David Moyes, West Ham failed to sign a new center-back in January despite the injuries to Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma.
Bondy, in Seine-Saint-Denis, is where Saliba was born. His mother is Cameroonian, while his father is Lebanese.
The French Football Federation opened an inquiry on February 9th, 2021, into a video that Saliba had taken in 2018, showing one of his France youth international colleagues appearing to touch himself provocatively. As they saw the footage captured by Saliba as “damaging to the image of the federation & football as a whole,” the FFF decided to enlist the help of their disciplinary committee to look into the matter further.
Jeunes Footeux claims that the Hammers are already preparing their strategy for 2022–23, and Saliba is at the top of their Wishlist. According to the article, the East London organization is prepared to offer their cross-town opponents up to €30 million (£25.31 million) to seal a deal.
Despite paying an exact price in 2019, Saliba has only played on contract for Saint-Etienne, Nice, and Marseille rather than featuring for Arsenal’s main squad. With Marseille only allowing 13 goals in 22 La Liga games and challenging Paris Saint-Germain for second place, the 20-year-actions old’s have significantly improved in the latter.
According to a story earlier this week, Arsenal was reportedly prepared to transact at the amount West Ham was purportedly proposing. Concerns over Saliba’s future at Arsenal are present. Many find it unsettling that Mikel Arteta has not included the child in his plans. There appears to be no assurance that he will participate next season.
Arsenal will undoubtedly be hesitant to transfer him to West Ham. The top four teams are being contested this season by the two clubs. They could compete again the following semester.
Arsenal supporters would find it challenging to see Saliba succeed at the Bernabeu or the San Siro. But the club must not be willing to let Saliba join West Ham if he does not have his chance with the Gunners.
